Neo coolcam z-wave devices

Just got one, got it working with OH1. Initially had a hard time including the device, but was included fine after resetting it (holding the code button for 10s).

I have 3 neo Z-wave flood sensors, and 2 neo wall plug, openhab 2 on a raspberry pi (openhabian), and an Aeon Labs Z-stick gen5. The wall pluggs are correctly identified by openhab. For the flood sensors, Openhab sees the node, but it never identifies the device (ā€œUnknown Device; The device is not in the database; The device initialisation is not completeā€. I have waited several days, and the flood sensors are never identifed. I have tried to wake them up by pressing the button one, I tried a fresh installation of Openhab, and replaced to z-stick - but they are still not initialized.

What to I need to do to make Openhab to identify/initialize the flood sensor?

Are you using the snapshot version, or the release version? If itā€™s the release, then thatā€™s now 6 months old so the database doesnā€™t have the newer devices.

I used the stable version. I have now updated to the latest snapshot version. Unfortunately the web server does not seem to work for one of the systems after the upgrade, I can only get access to it by PuTTY. The other system work after the upgrade, and has now been on-line for about 12 hours. It finds the nodes, but it still state ā€œUnknown deviceā€

In that case it would be useful if you can provide some information about your device. If itā€™s not in the database, then it needs to be added, but you havenā€™t said specifically what the device is or what the binding is reporting.

I would expect that it is in the data base
http://www.cd-jackson.com/index.php/zwave/zwave-device-database/zwave-device-list/devicesummary/493

However, the box says ā€œWater sensorā€, Manufacturer neo coolcam, see link below.

I can get all 3 units to be detected as nodes and they all starts beeping when exposed to water, so I think they work OK

What is the binding (or the UI) reporting in the attributes? We need to know the device type and id and manufacturer to be sure about what we are looking at - otherwise we might just head in the wrong direction.

I use: Z-Wave Binding zwave Chris Jackson

The properties from the binding
zwave_class_basic
ROUTING_SLAVE
zwave_class_generic
SENSOR_NOTIFICATION
zwave_frequent

zwave_nodeid

I donā€™t see device type or device ID, so maybe this device is not yet discovered. I would make sure that you have woken it up a few times in close proximity to the controller to allow it to complete the interrogation.

I factory reseted the USB stick, and all the water sensors and a plug. I pressed the wake up buttom (getting a red light from the led) 5-10 times a few minutes appart. The wall plug (same manufacturer) was properly identifed, but none of the water sensors were identified.

Below is the info from the 3 water sensors

When I was activating it was also not without any pain, I activate them very often and in proximity of the stick did you do that as well?

Note that I bought the same and I use them (at this moment of OH1) maybe you have a newer release of the hardware?

Iā€™m working on migrating to OH2, so I hope to be able to tell you whether they work in OH2 in a week or so.

I have them about 10 cm from the stick, and I have tried to activate them by pushing the button and 1 get one blink of the red diod. I must have done this more than 20 times, still nothing has changed

I remember that some of them only got completely initialised after 24 hours of patience, since you resettled everything today you could leave them alone and just wait for 24 hours.

Maybe someone has any better ideas?

The 3 units has now been about 10 cm from the stick well over 24 hours. Still no change, they give the same information as above

Iā€™ll try to migrate my z wave devices also to OH2, Iā€™ll keep you informed.

Please be aware that there is such a thing as ā€œtoo closeā€ and you can easily overload receivers in this way. Probably this isnā€™t the problem, but I would suggest to keep it about 1 to 2 meters apart.

Your next step is to look in the log to see if anything is happening. Maybe the device is not communicating at all - the information you list above all comes from the controller - not the device.

OK Iā€™ll move them.

Unfortunately I am quite a beginner, how can I find the log?

You can find information on logging here. Note that you will need to enable logging for zwave (see the section on defining what to log).

You can then view the log with the viewer here.

There might be something fishy, I just migrated and the first strange device my Neocool motion detector is not really properly recognized, according to the log viewer its done

21:34:24.305 5 Stage advanced to DONE

But it does report the correct attributes & unknown device

Note that it is in the database:

http://www.cd-jackson.com/index.php/zwave/zwave-device-database/zwave-device-list/devicesummary/401

I had more luck, after a night of sleep my PIR sensor looks better, no sight yet of my water sensors, but i did not wake them either. Iā€™ll keep you posted

PS: @chris what a beautiful log analysis tool
