"No enum constan error" for new Comet Z-Wave Radiator controller

<Raspi 4+, OH v. 4.1.0>

I have recently bought new Comet Z-Wave Radiator controllers.
I think they have a new firmware because the old one I have has less channels to be linked.
Unexpectedly when i want to send the message to change the Set Heating value. I receive this error:

I checked all configuration and compared with the old controller.

I removed the temperature dimension in the settings and error does not appear. But sending the message to the controller does not change the value on the controller itself - no reaction on temp. set.

looking in the log files i see the message (last three lines):

Received commands datatype DecimalType couldn't be converted to channels datatype QuantityType

Any Ideas on that? It seems the value being sent has a wrong type.

I’d check the channels description against the linked items. Mode is decimal (probably 0 off or 1 heat) and setpoint needs to be temperature. Maybe with the extra channels there is a mismatch. This is also in the debug near the middle after to command to set the Mode at 1 (this seems an odd command). (the log is filtered so I can’t analyze the byte message that was received).

Edit: I think I see the problem (if my above suggestions don’t work). See if you can link to the eco setpoint and delink the other one (as a workaround). If that doesn’t work you can try this file

Indeed there are some new channels I see first time:

I do not think so, 1 i a default value for Heat mode. 0=OFF 11=Economy Heat, 15=Full Power (Valve fully open). I was expecting the same in the new controller. Let me check your suggestion with eco setpoint.

I am just wondering why the heck I have Dimmer channel for the heat controller?
I did connect other channels and try to operate with them.

  1. I am surprised about Dimming Channel in this Thing
  2. Setpoint Eco has following options (???):
  3. Activating Heat mode and changing the set temperature does not influence controller change. There is still the same set temp. displayed. And vice versa. Changing the temperature directly on the controller does not update Setpoint Heat value.

Is there something with the OH configuration files?

@apella12 the file you shared is this something related to the new Comet Z-Wave configuration?
The solution is a little bit complicated to mee. If this is going to be introduced in the new update I could wait…

Yes. I fixed what I believe was the problem and edited the XML to what it will look like when approved and in the next ZW binding snapshot. The last ZW DB update was 3 weeks ago, so there should be another soon-ish. Because the developer is very busy with his real job, I have been offering folks the manual binding update option. I didn’t want you to freeze :wink:, because sometimes the wait could be weeks. The location for your device is here

Other notes

  1. The dimmer might have to do with the brightness of the device light (not to keep you up at night?)
  2. I was talking about the Setpoint Eco, your picture is the Operations Mode channel. I’m not sure about that. I think it is a copy of the Thermostat mode
  3. I don’t have these things, but have a furnace, so for me the Mode is 1 all winter long. Heat goes on when the sensor temperature is below the setpoint and off when the setpoint is reached. Sounds like you have to turn it on first when you want heat. No worries.

The problem I think I fixed was that the Setpoint heating referenced a Setpoint Type=Heat, it needs to be Setpoint Type=Heating. The setpoint Eco Type=Furnace, so that was legit, so I thought it could be a workaround. I did however change it Type= Econ_Heat because I think it needs to match option 11

Oh thank you. Now as i know there will be some updates i could be patient and wait for them. I do not want to destroy my system. Even with regular backups i will probably have to work on if it brakes or sth goes wrong.

It is more than that. It seems they want to keep the compatibility. If someone exchanges the device the old Mode will be there. With the new Operations Mode they introduce more possibilities. i shall keep to the old one. I think

I hope this will fix the reaction on the Setpoint Heating value and The Value on the controller will adopt to this what is being set by sending the OH/Z-Wave message.

@apella12 I upgreaded to 4.1.1 release and unfortunately i can not set the temperature at all. I can switch operation mode to Heat ON or OFF but changing the temp. does not work :frowning:
It seems the Controler does not receive it or simply do not answer.

I’m glad you are not getting the error, but I do not see the changes I made in your logs. Could you try to delete (not exclude) one of the comets and scan for it in the inbox?

Looking at the history of the zwave binding DB updates, I think you are going to have to update to a 4.2 snapshot to get the changes, but maybe the delete/scan will work.

What do you mean one of the comets? You mean thermostat controls directly? If I delete the thing it and its items will disappear and will not recover when i scan again.

If you simply delete (and not exclude) everything will appear again and any new parameters will show up . Items will be linked like they were. It would just be a way to check if you have the update. I’m thinking you don’t, so don’t try if you are concerned.

Try the zwave binding snapshot on 4.1.1 or just upgrade to 4.2M1. M1 seems pretty reliable, I’ve been on it since it came out. You can the posting for concerns

I just looked into the Comet Z config again (it was me who uploaded 1561 to the database but I believe I got a few thiings wrong).
I never managed to get the Eco setpoint to work, always got an error message.
Now with the updated XML I get no error message but setting the Eco setpoint seems to change the Heating setpoint and resets the Eco setpoint to 16 (I deleted the things and items, cleared the cache and restarted openhab). Weird.
As far as I can see the log looks right (see below).
Does anybody have an idea what is going wrong here? Do you actually manage to configure the Eco temperature via the setpoint?

To be honest. I made an update to 4.2.2 and I still can not properly control the thermostat. There are too many features and options to control. Too many modes. For me it is still not working properly.

I think the channel “Operations Mode” does not make sense for this device and should be removed (I don’t know if there was a mix-up with another AC device).
As far as I can see, The options “Off”,“Heat”,“Economy Heat” and “Full Power” of the channel “Thermostat mode” are the only one that are documented and are useful.
I still have the problem that the “Setpoint Eco” actually also sets the Setpoint heating temperature (i.e. the on selected in “Heat” mode). It should set the “Economy Heat” temperature.
I guess something went wrong with the device config but that was what the zwave database proposed after importing the XML.
I don’t know enought to be able to narrow the problem down to the device configuration or binding bugs.
Unfortunately the maintainer of the binding does not seem to be active any longer. I tried to install a development environment to at least try to fix it but that did not work.
So I can’t see how to get that fixed.

He is active, but has a full-time job with lots of travel, so isn’t always around. I could delete the Operations mode as I agree it doesn’t make sense as a thermostat mode channel. It might make sense as a dimmer based on what I see in the manual.

When setting the Setpoint Eco, do you have the thermostat mode (not the one in the Basic) set as Economy Heat? Edit: It is also possible the channel on Basic is causing a problem with the Eco setpoint.

You mean the thermostat mode and not the operations mode?
Anyway, it doesn’t make a difference.
Setpount econupdates the heat temperature, i.e the target temperature in heat mode.

What does your operations mode look like? Is it linked to a switch or number? Try setting that to OFF or 0 while changing the eco setpoint. Also have thermostat mode on eco_heat.

FWIW- what I’m thinking from the manual is that the BASIC channel is a duplicate of the thermostat mode, except that the numbers are different.


So to use the econ setpoint the Basic needs to be 0 and the Mode needs to be 11. I’m not sure what overrules. Also from the binding the Basic is an ON (0xFF)/OFF(Ox00), so am not sure what is happening there. PS Don’t have the device, just an idea to test

I’ve tried all combinations. Operations Mode Off and thermostat Mode Eco (11),both off and both Eco.
Same result, changing the setpoint eco changes the setpoint heat and resets to 16 degrees.
When I switch to Heat, the temperatur is set to the setpoint heat temperature, when switching back it’s reset to the default of 16 degrees.
I don’t understand why there are two channels when they cannot set individually.

Well that was my best guess. I did delete the Operations Mode for the next ZW DB update because it is confusing.

You could probably work around this with a rule(s). I use time of day (or vacation, work) to change the setpoint. According to the manual both eco and heat have the same range.

Edit: also added the Manual option (0x1F) which should allow the dimmer to control the valve % and changed the power alarm to a battery alarm so it will work.
EDIT2: You could try overwriting this modified file to your Zwave binding, but I’m not optimistic since the test didn’t work.
EDIT: Readded a basic switch to maybe allow for Eco or Heat based on the manual options.
