It’s late at night over here in Europe, but in on the other side of the atlantic, it is still July 23 - the day that we planned to publish our new major openHAB release!
And here we are - a new release with a lot of new stuff. Check out the release notes on GitHub, but plan to take some time as they are really huge this time.
To better see the big picture of changes, @florian-h05 created a release blog post with contributions from many other maintainers, which I can highly recommend to read - it guides you through the new features and gives a great overview.
Since it is a major release, the update from 3.x might not be completely automatic for everyone. Please note that the required minimal Java version has changed from 11 to 17, so make sure that you have a suitable JVM installed. Additionally, please pay attention to the breaking changes section of the release notes to see whether you need to do any manual changes before or after the upgrade.
And another last hint: Everyone that manually uses Linux package managers (and not openHABian), please make sure to use the latest repo signing key.
I wish you much fun with exploring the features of the new release. If you have any issues or questions, please use this topic for discussions.
Thank you all for upgrading and testing so eagerly!
With your help, we have identified a few bugs in certain bindings that are clearly regressions to before.
We have therefore just published our first patch release openHAB 4.0.1 that fixes those discovered issues.
You only need to update in case you are using any of the bindings listed in the release notes or if you want the 3 fixes that were done in the Main UI.
We have just built another patch release openHAB 4.0.4 with some fixes - please check out the release notes to see whether it is important for you to update to it!
