I’m a stupid user and I have no idea on how to get started.
This forum is strange… Why this look? I dont understand it at all…
Well, what I have so far…
Tinkerboard with Debian+Openhabian.
I have a FibaroHC2 with 40 z-wave things.
Since I had a Aeon Z-Stick and a Tinkerboard lying around not beeing used, and the HC2 is ready for the graveyard, I startet looking for a new solution.
Openhab ticks all my requirements, but it’s like hitting a brick wall trying to do anything useful with it.
Since I have a big house and lots of devices, I start at the bottom, and with the garage, and thats where I stop every time. Well, switches and lights check work done and so on. The rest I really do not understand at all.
I have made a sitemap, and set up all items I understand, switches and lights, but then it gets complicated. I try to setup anything else and it’s a brick wall.
I have a Aeon Garage Door controller ZW062 and nothing makes sense. How hard can it be? It only has 2 items. Barrier state and a switch… Switch not working, barrier state 0. No matter what I try.
In the HC2 it just works, I can open, close, and se if its open or closed.
I also have a couple of DSB05, and they do not work at all.
By the way, my Z-Stick is setup as a slave controller in the HC2 and all the things got transfered, I have also added more things, and they show up automagically in the inbox after inclusion in the HC2.
Then there is the UI’s I really dont understand if I should be Using Habmin or not. It looks more advanced, but I cant do anything in it. I dont understand it.
I ended up playing with bindings, and added a verisure binding from a .jar file and got all the things from my verisure alarm. The Netatmo binding also got all my things. Then the Tesla binding, hey that almost work as well (a lot of errors).
Now my log is running like crazy with updates from all bindings.
Is there another way to read this forum? I really dont understand this layout.
You are not telling much. What you may want to do is to start over, take it slow, read the doc (start with the intro), and pick one binding at a time. Right now, you mentioned three or four bindings, your general lack of understanding and unspecified errors. So, read the docs first, this way you may get some general ideas. Not sure what you do not understand in the forum, you can search, you can sort with tags…it is a forum there will be questions and answers in a long string (a thread) and sometimes the topic meanders. For all basic info, there is the documentation: docs.openhab.org (this links brings you to the beginning, start reading there and continue on).
Also, you may want to read this: How to ask a good question / Help Us Help You
Once you are a little clearer on the concepts, start with a simple binding (maybe start with neatmo), read the docs, read the docs for the binding and if you run into trouble read the post above, and share all details mentioned there. Only then will someone be able to help.
Oh, and by the way, the reason for today’s reinstall was the stupid garage controller.

Instead of trying to troubleshoot the stupid shit, like i did, I should just have formatted and started with a clean install. I endend up doing that.
I am not using Zwave, so cannot be of help. But you are still not giving anymore details than: it doesn’t work (did you read the post I linked above?). ZWave seems to run very solid once everything is configured, but I understand that configuration can be a little tricky. Maybe you want to consider starting with a simpler binding to get more comfortable with everything. Also, there are not many that use Tinkerboard it seems, so you may see additional challenges that you may need to resolve.
If you want to ask specific questions, it may be easier to help you understand…I am not sure where you are confused and what could be done to help you understand.
To be able to help, you should provide more details, including what steps have you performed, what error/message did you get, what errors are reported in the log files?
UI’s, wich one should I use. The doc’s really just confuses me more.
PaperUI can do stuff, but is not to be used.
Habmin look great, but I really cant find any newer information on it than 2016 (is it obsolete).
The screenshots in the docs are from 2014.
HabPanel looks cool i the demo, but I’m no graphical designer and can not make anything useful here.
I have tried editing the demo panel, but got bugged by all the stuff going on in the demo, that I had to reinstall without it.
I get now how I get switches and lights to work, on/off + dimmers. I did get a BasicUI up and running.
But how do I get the rest of the stuff I have. My motion sensors does not have items, my garage door controller does not respond to the switch and the logs are just filled with endless updates from Z-Wave or if I do anything, lots of errors…

Oh my…you posted the event log, none of these seem to be errors, they are just simply events demonstrating that you setup everything up that point well.
Habmin is a user interface that I believe is best used to administer ZWave devices
Habpanel is nice user interface that you can use, so is BasicUI, the choice is yours
PaperUI helps for admin things like installing bindings, things, items etc, but is not for end-use
(by the way, this is all mentioned in the docs)

OK, let’s simplify and get back to basics because you are understandably frustraited (and frankly so is everyone else on this thread) and you are a little like a bull in a China shop.
What version of OH is installed?
What is OH running on?
How did you install it?
What package did you choose when opening the dashboard for the first time?
From you screen shot it appears you have simple mouse enabled.
You are working with the zwave clearly. What steps did you take to include the garage controller?
What do you see in openhab.log when you accept the garage controller from the inbox?
What do you see in openhab.log when you try to send commands to the garage controller?
We need lots of information about one problem if we will have any hope to help.
As for the UIs:
PaperUI: used for administering and configuring OH
Habmin is better at administering Zwave so it is recommended for that. It has other capabilities similar to PaperUI but development of those aspects of the UI have not been kept up to date
Habpanal, BasicUI, ClassicUI are all UIs that you create and are how the users of your home automation interact with it

Aeon Z-Stick was included in my Fibaro HC2 as a secondary controller.
So it already has the entire Z-Wave network on it.
This clean setup I startet yesterday, has only 1 binding, Z-Wave and since the Z-Stick has a copy of the network, the entire network shows up in the inbox and I added them as things.
Configuration->System->Item Linking = Simple Mode (when adding things so items get created).
Now this is the Garage Controller

I actually got something working before going to bed. If I leave the Switch ON in habmin (it starts off as off) nothing happens, but if I then leave it off, garage door opens, and stays open until I set it ON again and leave it there, it closes and stays that way. I can now also see in Habmin the Barrier State changes from Closed->Opening->Open->Closing_>Closed.

So there is no Zwave commands in the eventlog, and no error this time around
I found it… While reviewing my post I saw a difference in the rule code and my image of the Thing.
When I write code in Visual Studio Code and add a switch it is written like this:
zwave_device_2c7c7871_node51_switch_binary
In the code example there is colons not underscores, I tried changing that before, but ended up crashing my openhab to the point where the log was red with scrolling errors and I lost all UI’s but the log and help. I did not find a good way to recover from that so I ended up reinstalling. So I must have typed it wrong.
But in the image of the Thing, I se it written different:
zwave:device:2c7c7871:node51:switch_binary
So I changed my items file to:
Switch proxyGarageDoor
Number Garage_status “Status Garage Door [%s]” {channel=“zwave:device:2c7c7871:node51:barrier_state”}
Now it works! Garage opens and closes And the Status Garage Door now shows numbers…
How do I get the status to show the same text that Habmin shows? Closed->Opening->Open->Closing->Closed?
There might be something about the controller being a secondary controller instead of the master that might be causing problems. That is one place to look into. Search the forum and there are a lot of posts. One post that does pop up:
There can only be a single primary controller in a network, so if you join another controller it will be a secondary controller.
There are a lot of limitations with this so don’t expect to have all the features you get as a primary controller such as being able to control battery devices or getting lifeline notifications…
That is the Thing Channel ID. Because you have simple mode enabled, Items automatically get created for every Channel. The Channel ID is used for the Item name, only the : are replaced with _.
I really really do not like Simple mode and wish it would die. It only serves to obscure and confuse.
Not easily. You will probably need to create another proxy Item and a Rule to interpret the current number in Garage_status and the previous number to determine direction and what the state means. You can’t use a simple MAP transform.
