Zooz zen17 relay/sensor

Has anyone gotten the Zooz Zen17 device to work with OpenHab 2/3?

My OH2 system sees the thing, but I don’t see how to add the channels.

Thanks

According to the device database entry dates you need openHAB 3.1.0 to get that device recognized bu the binding.

You cannot add channels because the binding does that based on its copy of the device database. OHd bindings have a database before January 2020.

Great. Thanks. I looked at the wrong database apparently.

The database entry is here and was added in February 2021, long after 2.5 and prior were released…
In the past you could use a snapshot version og the binding with older versions but that is no longer possible for 3.0.x and prior.

I updated from 3.0 to 3.1 and the device was recognized. Interestingly, only the relay outputs are available for linking. This device has 2 inputs as well…

The Zooz docs refer to the relays (outputs) as R1 & R2, and the switches (inputs) as S1 & S2.

In OH3.1 the thing configuration allows linking of “Switch 1” and “Switch 2”, There’s no Relay channel. It looks to me (still a bit of a noob, so apologies) like the switch channels are inputs (good).

Looking at the associations tab in the database (OpenSmartHouse Z-Wave Device Database) mentions of Relay 1 and Relay 2 (but no switches). So if feels to me like there’s a bug in the database.

Hoping that someone more knowledgeable about ZWave can help me out with this.

Thanks!

Digging into the database XML in github… I looked at more Zooz products (zen15 & zen20), and found that the zen15 (a single outlet power switch) has a single “switch_binary” entry. Nice point of reference… The “relay” outputs are referred to as “switches” in the database.

I simply don’t see anything in the DB that suggests the device has inputs.

Are you looking for configuration parameters 10 & 11? They determine which input controls which relay.according to the manual attached to the database entry.

Apparently they did not provide channels to use the inputs separate from the relays, as far as I can determine.

I didn’t see those… But my understanding, based on reading the manual is that the inputs were independent of the outputs (i.e., the inputs do not control the outputs, necessarily). Sounds like I need to get in touch with Zooz and clear up my understanding.

Thanks!

They are excellent support people… If they do not know the answer they will get the answer from the engineers.

They were very quick to respond. Nice.

They said that the input switches could be separated from directly controlling the relays (we knew that), but once done, the inputs could be read independently, and the relays controlled independently.

This suggests to me that there should be separate channels for the relays and switches. I’d dig into this myself by I have NO idea how the Zwave system works… And I’d likely mess up the maintainer’s work (that’s you, right Bruce?).

I’d appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks!

I appreciate the complement, but @chris is the developer. It is a community maintained database but if you post the xml from your device that could be helpful.

Happy to. How do I get the XML?

In the zwave folder of userdata, Files are named according to the node id.

But to share the glory, @Bruce_Osborne has put a lot in to the database - as have others over the years such as @sihui and @5iver (and I’ve probably missed someone).

That XML is for your Z-Wave controller.

I guess we need @chris assistance. I thought I could see channels in the xml but apparently I am not experienced enough. Sorry.

The channels are in the command class configuration section, I see 16,1,17,2,18,3,6,8,10,11 & 15. I do not have this device and am not sure by reading the thread what the problem is. However, I would add that any parameter, even if not available on the UI Thing tab, can be set using the code tab or the API developer tool. I have a device where all the configuration options were not available in the UI thing page, but the device will still recognize them if you send them to it.

Bob

My apologies it was late and I was confused between configure parameters and channels. Sorry. Ignore this post.

Bob

Thanks for the help guys. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.
