RasPi not seeing Z-wave Serial port

I have upgraded to OpenHAB 3.1.1 on a new RasPi 4. I moved my Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5+ over from the orginal OpenHAB 2 on a Raspi 3, to start setting up Z-wave devices and I am having trouble have setting up the serialport.

I have seen that I have a /dev/ttyAMA0 on the system but It does seem to be working. I have unplugged the Z-stick from the USB and then check the /dev directory again and no change. All of my google searching and troubleshooting thinks that it is a hardware issue not recognize the USB device.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

It’s a known issue between the Raspberry Pi 4 and the Aeotec Z-Stick. Just search for “Aeotec Raspberry Pi 4”.

The solution is to use a USB 2.0 hub.

For those who have a simular problem and stumbled here (like I did).
I saw exactly the same with a rpi 3B (not plus) and a zway stick.

Only the zway is seen from the moment another USB device or hub is plugged in. The zway stick does not even have to be connected via the hub. You can even remove the other USB device after the zway stick is plugged in (but after a reboot…).

other Zwave sticks (Aeotec) are seen without problem by the OS (and OH).
