Hi,
there are some posts about building smart mirrors on the forum already, so I don’t want to get in detail how to build one in general, but how to make it easier to build it.
My idea was to have an easy-to-build mirror. I’ve done this by:
- buy a picture frame (e.g. SANNAHED Rahmen, weiß, 50x50 cm - IKEA Deutschland)
- replace the glass with a magic mirror, about 60€ when bought online.
- put an Android tablet behind the glass
- install the openHAB Android app
The app includes a screensaver which can be enabled in the OS settings. The screensaver displays time, date and the content of an Item. Its value is build by a rule which consists of outside temperature, infos about open windows and when the next train departures. You can use very basic HTML to style the text, e.g. <small>
.
Aside from installing the app and writing a rule there’s no new software involved which needs maintenance
